Welcome to Gozo Minor Seminary

As part of the Malta Community Chest Fund Campaign, Mr. Edgar Preca visited the Sacred Heart Minor Seminary of Victoria Gozo, on Tuesday 22nd November 2016. Mr. Preca was welcomed at the school entrance by the Seminary Students' Council, the Head of School Can. Emmanuel Saliba, Assistant Head Fr. Joe Zammit, and by the Director for Educational Services in Church Schools Dr. Roseanne Cuschieri.

Mr. Preca was accompanied to the school hall where he met the Forms 1, 2 and 3 students. Matthew Grech, of Form 3 Yellow did the welcome speech, making reference to the 150th Anniversary of the School. The school Orchestra, under the direction of Mr. Ivan Farrugia, accompanied by the school choir led by Mrs. Nataline Attard, played the School Hymn and the Hymn to Gozo.  The Head of School addressed those present, offered Mr. Preca a donation for the Malta Community Chest Fund, and gave Mr. Preca the first copy of the newly published book Toni Portelli: l-Għalliem li ħabbu kulħadd. Can. Saliba explained that our school still feels the loss of one of the Minor Seminary Teachers, Mr. Portelli, who passed away all of a sudden last year.  Fr. Geoffrey Attard, one of the Minor Seminary teachers, published this new book which includes comments written by students, past-pupils, colleagues and others who knew Mr. Portelli. Following the wish of Mr. Portelli's wife, the book is being sold for 5 euros and the proceeds will go to help the Sacred Heart Minor Seminary.

Then Mr. Edgar Preca offered some books for the School Library and in his speech invited the students to cherish the Christian Values, to pray and help those in need. Mr. Spiro Sillato played the guitar and sung Inti Djamant and We Wish you a Merry Christmas.  The activity continued with Mr. Preca visiting the Forms 4 and 5 students in their respective classrooms.  Some good refreshments were shared and before leaving the Minor Seminary, Mr. Edgar Preca signed the school visitors' book ad futura memoria.
